Having a traditional wedding has long been forgotten. No longer are the days where bride and groom stand up to be announced in front of the whole room, have a first dance, and play the cheesy and corny wedding games that newlyweds in the 1970s played. Today a wedding is about expressing your uniqueness as a couple, your feelings of what a wedding should be, and a way to show off what your ideas of a great wedding actually are. What is a great wedding? What makes a wedding unique? The ideas are plentiful and in this article we plan on addressing some of the new trends in wedding planning as well as some of the great ideas that have stuck around for decades without being cheesy.

Wedding Food

Family style? Buffet? Individual dishes? What kind of wedding food should we have? Honestly it might all boil down to budget and that’s okay. If all you can afford is one specific type of food, be it family style or a buffet, then that’s quite alright. There’s no sense in going into debt over something such as food. We will say, however, that with the ever-growing food truck industry, it might be a fun and exciting idea to hire a food truck to cater your wedding. Imagine a taco truck set up outside, serving the best and most authentic beef, chicken, and chorizo tacos to all of your guests as they drink and dance the night away. Not only will be it be talked about for ages but it will also be great for when people have a few drinks in them and crave great food that is not typically served at weddings.

Desserts: Cake or not?

Actually some people don’t have cake at all. There is an ever growing trend amongst brides and grooms across the entire United States of America where they simply don’t have a cake. Some of them serve individual cup cakes, some serve cookies, and others simply offer a mixed dessert bar that is full of single-serve dishes that range from cookies to cheese cake or even slices of pie. This allows guests a variety and the nice part is that it remains available throughout the entire evening versus having a designated time for desserts which causes some guests to miss out if they simply weren’t in the mood.

Consider a band versus a DJ

Sure, you can’t go wrong with a good hustle or the Cha Cha Slide. However, an experienced band will not only get the crowd moving but they’ll also know when to play a slow song, fast song, or when to even talk to the crowd. In order to really understand a crowd a band must not only be skilled at what they do but also have an understanding of individuals’ actions and how they work. Most bands will play for 45 minutes with a 15 minute break. Some of them, however, have enough members that some can break while the rest continue playing, leaving the dance floor movin’ and groovin’ all night long.

In the above examples it’s almost impossible for your guests not to have not only a fun and exciting but also unique and unforgettable time at your wedding. When your guests leave, they’ll not only talk about the interesting food and music options that you offered but also the great dessert choices that they had.
